This study examined how educational media influence cognitive skill development among early childhood learners. Early childhood is a critical stage of development during which foundational cognitive abilities such as memory, attention, language, reasoning, and problem-solving begin to emerge and develop rapidly. Providing stimulating and engaging learning experiences at this stage is essential for promoting intellectual growth and preparing children for future academic success. Educational media have become important instructional tools in early childhood education because they offer diverse, interactive ways to present information that capture learners’ attention and accommodate different learning styles. The study used a conceptual review approach, examining existing literature on educational media and its role in supporting cognitive development among young learners. Findings revealed that different forms of educational media such as print materials, audio resources, audio-visual tools, and digital interactive technologies significantly enhance children’s cognitive growth. Print media support early literacy and comprehension skills, audio media strengthen listening ability and memory retention, audio-visual media improve attention and understanding of concepts, while digital interactive media promote creativity, participation, and problem-solving skills. However, challenges such as excessive media exposure, limited teacher competence in media integration, and inadequate access to learning resources may hinder effective utilisation. The study concludes that when appropriately selected and properly supervised, educational media can significantly enhance cognitive skill development among early childhood learners.
