Abstract

The indispensable need to know the skills acquired to protect digital records motivated this study, “Cybersecurity skills acquired by Business Education learners for effective workplace digital records management in Universities in Rivers State.” Two research questions guided the study, and two null hypotheses were tested. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. From a population of 554 Business Education learners, a census survey sampling was employed. A four-point response options questionnaire was used for data collection, and it was validated by three experts. The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach’s alpha, which yielded coefficients of 0.67 and 0.68. Mean and Standard Deviation were used to answer research questions and measure the spread in respondents' opinions, while an independent t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that the types of cybersecurity skills mentioned were lowly acquired, and that there is a high level of benefits of cybersecurity skills to Business Education learners for effective workplace digital records management. Based on the findings, it was concluded that those types of cybersecurity skills were highly needed to be acquired for effective workplace digital records management. Therefore, among other things, it was recommended that Universities in Rivers State running Business Education programmes should ensure that learners are exposed to the different types of cybersecurity skills and their benefits for effective workplace digital records management.
