Electromagnetic Shielding Performance of Aluminium Foil for Stealth Applications
Keywords:
Aluminium Foil, Radar Detection, Radar-Absorbing Material, Stealth Technologies, High-Frequency Structure SimulatorAbstract
To evade radar detection, modern warfare requires the development of effective stealth technologies. This experiment aims to evaluate the potential of aluminium foil as a covert radar-absorbing material (RAM) by analysing the electromagnetic properties and reflection loss of aluminium foil using High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS), and also carrying out physical experimentation (Faraday’s cage set-up) of the foil to evaluate its electromagnetic (EM) wave shielding characteristics, with a focus on its applicability as a candidate RAM. The research explores the use of aluminium foil in stealth design, highlighting its radar-absorbing properties. The results demonstrate that aluminium foil-based RAMs can be engineered to reduce radar cross-section, enhancing stealth capabilities. This domestically developed technology offers a versatile and cost-effective solution for stealth applications, fostering significant growth and operational efficiency.
